Courage First, Trust Next—And Then the Miracles

Alma 17:12—They Took Courage

I keep coming back to this moment—the sons of Mosiah standing at the edge of the unknown. The borders of the Lamanite land stretched before them, uncertain and unpredictable. And yet, they took courage.

I wonder what that looked like. Did they take a deep breath before stepping forward? Did they exchange a final glance, reassuring each other before parting ways? Did their hands shake a little as they let go and walked alone into the work the Lord had called them to?

But here’s the part that moves me—they trusted in the Lord. They trusted that He would be in the details. That He would guide their steps. That even in the separation, they would find each other again at the close of the harvest. And because of that trust, it was great.

How often do I stand at my own borders, uncertain of what’s ahead? How often do I hesitate, wondering if I am strong enough, ready enough, brave enough? And yet, isn’t this the pattern? Courage first. Then trust. And then—somehow—the greatness of God unfolds.

Maybe the real miracle isn’t in what we see immediately. Maybe it’s in the stepping forward. In the letting go. In the quiet confidence that at the end of it all, we will gather again and see the goodness of the Lord in the work He invited us into.

Today, I choose courage. I choose trust. And I choose to believe that what He is doing—though unknown and sometimes unseen—is great.
