When Justice Feels Far Away: Trusting God in the Waiting
Last night I went to bed early. Or at least I tried to. My body was tired, but my mind was full—the kind of full that keeps you staring at the ceiling long after the lights go out.
I was thinking about my life. Where I am right now that feels… heavy. Unfair. Unresolved.
I found myself asking the same quiet questions I’ve whispered before:
Is this fair? Does God see? Will He fix it?
And right there in the quiet of my bedroom, I felt that gentle nudge, that familiar whisper from heaven:
“The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14)
I’ve always loved that verse. But last night, it landed in a way that felt personal. Almost like God was saying, “You don’t have to carry all of this. I’ve got it. I’ve got you.”
Sometimes, we want justice to show up loud and clear. We want the wrongs made right, the misunderstandings corrected, the hurt erased. But what I’m learning—slowly, and often in the dark—is that God’s justice is quieter than we expect. It comes with peace when there should be chaos. It shows up in little moments of grace. And often, it looks like Him defending us in ways we can’t even see yet.
What helps me hold on while I wait? It’s not big, dramatic signs. It’s the small things:
– A scripture that feels like it was written just for me
– A memory of another time He showed up, just in time
– A friend’s text at the exact moment I needed it
– A quiet feeling that I’m not in this alone
Maybe you’re in a waiting season too. Maybe you’re wondering if God sees, if He’s paying attention, if He’s still in your corner.
Let me just remind you—He is. He defends. He blesses. He shows up. Not always in the way we expect, but always in the way we need.
If you’re up for it, I invite you to sit with a few questions and write what’s on your heart today:
What part of your life feels unfair or heavy right now?
Where do you need to trust that God will fight for you?
Can you remember a time when He showed up for you in the past?
What would it look like to hand that burden over to Him today?
And maybe close with a prayer, even if it’s simple. Even if it’s just, “I trust You. Help me hold my peace.”
You’re not alone. He sees you. He loves you. And He’s already at work—even in the waiting.
